Yes, You Really Do Need to Change Your Air Purifier Filter

bryant air purifier filters and systems can capture and kill 99% of Coronavirus

We get lots of questions about air purifier filters, particularly this one: “Do I really need to change my air purifier filter?” The answer is a resounding and without hesitation “yes!” It seems somewhat silly that one simple little filter can make such a big difference. But, it’s true. It is important to understand how air purifiers work in order to totally understand the importance of air purification filters.

Take Bryant’s Evolution™ Air Purifier as an example. As unclean air full of dust, germs, bacteria, pollen, and other allergens enters the purifier, these particles are charged with ions. The filter is oppositely charged from the particles. Basic science that you would have learned in school tells you that opposites attract, so they cling to the filter like a magnet. This allows clean air to easily pass through, leaving behind all the nasty stuff on the filter.

Just like the filters on your heating and air conditioning system, air purifier filters need to be changed regularly in order for air purifiers to work to the highest efficiency possible. Without a clean air purifier filter, air purifiers can’t do their job.

As we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that we do everything possible to ensure the proper function of our home safety measures and protect our families. That means swapping out to a clean air purifier every three to six months. Here are the simple facts as to why maintaining a clean air purifier filter is important.

Keeps your air purifier running like new

More than just keeping your air clean, a clear air purifier filter helps keep your air purifier running like new. As an air filter gets dirtier and dirtier, it becomes harder for clean air to pass through. Therefore, in order to get that treated air through the purifier has to work extra hard.

This increased workload over time puts unnecessary strain on the inner mechanisms and can cause them to wear out faster than they normally would. Keeping a clean air purifier filter helps your purifier from working any harder than it has to, something I think we can all get behind!

Catches more particles and allergens

The pleated design and special characteristics of air purification filters allow them to grab on to airborne germs, dust, pollen, viruses, and other allergens almost like a magnet. This is how clean air to pass through while all the harmful stuff is left behind in the filter. However, as a filter gets more and more congested, the amount of surface area of clean filter left to catch particles dwindles.

Without available clean space, it becomes harder for the filter to do its job. As air is pushed through a dirty filter, fewer and fewer particles of harmful agents are actually caught and are allowed back into the circulating air of your home.

ACTUALLY keeps your air clean

An air purifier is only as effective as its filter allows it to be. Without a clean air purifier filter, all the air purifier does is treat the air with an ionic charge, which doesn’t accomplish anything without the oppositely charged filter. If a dirty air purifier filter cannot prevent dust, germs, bacteria, and other harmful allergens from circulating then it is pretty safe to say that its job isn’t getting done.

Your filter actually cleans the air, not the purifier. Together, they work hand in hand to deliver the one-two punch that removes harmful bacteria and particles from the air and keep you safe. Without both parts pulling their weight and doing their job then nothing gets done. Keeping a clean filter helps make sure they are.

So, when was the last time you changed your air purification filter? Take a look and make sure your air purifier is actually doing its job correctly.

For those of you who don’t have an air purifier in your home, now is a good time to start seriously considering it. COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to our health and safety, and as we spend more time indoors and home, the quality of our air and the prevention of the spread of the virus becomes more important than ever.

The Bryant Evolution™ Air Purifier has been proven to inactivate 99% of coronavirus through testing at the University of Colorado Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, using a murine coronavirus – a virus closely related to the novel human coronavirus.
