Condensation Overflow & Water Damage

Have you ever had water pool around your inside air conditioning unit and you aren’t sure why? The first and most important step is to turn off your unit right away to reduce the chances of permanently damaging your unit or causing extensive water damage to your home. Once you’ve turned off your inside air conditioning unit, call a trained certified Heating and Air Conditioning technician for an emergency appointment. At Breedlove Dobbs Heating and Cooling, we offer a device called a Wet Switch WS-1, which detects water and shuts off your air conditioning system when it detects there is water leakage. This would be a good investment to make, to prevent permanent damage to your air conditioning unit and water damage to the interior of your house.

We’ve listed out a few things below to help you understand why this happens and how you can handle it!

A common reason why there is condensation overflow in your air conditioning unit is due to a clogged condensate drain line or a rusted condensate drain pan. If dirt, mold, particles, bugs, or debris clog the drain line, this can cause major issues because the water has nowhere to go, so it just sits there building up into your house. If you notice this happening, you can use a wet-dry vacuum cleaner to pull out whatever is clogging the drain line.

A dirty evaporator coil can also sometimes be the issue as well. When dirt mixes with water, it can fall dow into the pan creating a clog in the drain. You will need a professional certified technician to clean the coil. This is something that should be completed during your annual Heating and Air Conditioning maintenance check ups.

The drain pan could also be rusted with holes, letting water seep onto the floor which will create damage to your house. If this happens, you will need to replace the pan ASAP.

If you find water leakage from your air conditioner unit and have checked for all of these issues and still cannot find a reason why your unit is leaking, please give us a call on our 24/7 emergency line at 317.888.911. We will send out a professional certified technician to take a look at the problem and fix it.
